Group Wing Surf Lessons Overview

1. Wing and Board Setup
Start by checking wind direction. Lay the wing flat on the sand before pumping, using your legs instead of your arms to inflate. Wings usually inflate via a single valve, but some models, like the Cabrinha X2, have separate valves for faster inflation. Always follow the recommended PSI for your specific wing.

2. Flipping the Wing
Flipping the wing is crucial, especially after falls. Practice on land by holding the leading edge or wingtip to flip it. Master flipping from a standing, kneeling, and seated position as you’ll likely be seated or kneeling on your board in the water.

3. Wing Control and Hand Movements
Get comfortable moving the wing without powering it up. Hold it in a feathered position by the leading-edge handle. Practice switching hands to maintain control while keeping the wing depowered. Pulling on the back handle activates the wing, so control is key.

4. Walking with the Wing
On land, practice walking with the wing in the neutral position. Hold the leading edge handle and tilt the wing in the direction you're walking. This helps you understand wind power and control before heading into the water.

5. Carrying the Wing and Board to the Water
Carry the wing by the leading-edge handle, letting it fly behind you. In crosswind conditions, hold the wing downwind, keeping the board and foil upwind to avoid damage.

6. Getting on the Board
Start on your knees with the wing depowered. If it flips, grab the front handle to reposition it. Once stable, grab the inner handles, stand one foot at a time, and gently pull the back handle to capture the wind.

7. Balance and Going Upwind
To ride upwind, push harder on your back foot while pulling on the back handle. Position your feet on opposite edges of the board for better balance.

8. Engaging the Foil
Once you're comfortable, start engaging the foil by gaining speed and pressing on your back foot. As you get better, you can lift the foil at lower speeds by adjusting foot pressure.
